Student Leadership & Involvement Overview:
 

Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI) shapes campus culture through self-discovery, leadership development, collaboration, community building and social responsibility with a myriad of active learning opportunities, preparing students to be catalysts for a more equitable and caring world.

Student Sustainability Initiative Overview:

Within SLI, the Student Sustainability Initiative (SSI) works to advance student efforts to create a culture of sustainability at OSU through programming that fosters environmental, social, and economic justice. SSI believes educational institutions have a responsibility to model innovative tools, systems, and ways of thinking to create a more sustainable world and provide students opportunities to become leaders creating that change.


Position Summaries for Summer 2017 Hire:

Growing Food Security Garden Coordinator 

The Growing Food Security Garden Coordinator creates a space for garden education, student engagement, and advocacy to promote a sustainable and equitable food system for OSU community members. 

The Garden Coordinator position will need to start as soon as possible and work 20 hours/week until September 11th.

The Justice coordinator creates a space for education, student engagement, and advocacy about social, economic, and environmental justice and ensures SSI programming supports a holistic vision of a sustainable campus community.

Application Process

To apply for a Student Sustainability Initiative student staff position, submit the following online as soon as possible. To apply for a SSI student staff position, submit an online application as soon as possible and by Friday July 21st for full consideration. Positions will be filled on a rolling basis once qualified applicants apply and are interviewed. UPDATE 8/18: SSI positions have been filled!

  • Describe your vision of a holistically sustainable campus and what you hope to accomplish in your time with the SSI to make that vision a reality at OSU.
  • Explain how your experience prepares you for success in this position (speak specifically to how you meet the required and preferred qualifications) 
  • Describe an experience you have had that you believe influenced or impacted your understanding and knowledge of a culture, belief, or lived experience different from your own.

Attach Resume and References. Your resume should address your related work, service, sustainability, social justice, community, and/or leadership experiences. Please be sure your resume includes at least two references including name, email, phone number, position title, and relation to you.

The Administrative project coordinator ensures that SSI’s internal policies and procedures reflect our organizational values and advocates for sustainable office practices campus-wide.

The Climate Neutral 2025 project coordinator creates a space for education, student engagement, and advocacy about climate change and to help reach campus-wide climate neutrality by 2025.

The Living Laboratory Event Coordinator coordinates SSI’s signature events and Alternative Spring Break program, creating opportunities for students to engage in sustainability and empowering them to make changes in their everyday lives.

Waste Reduction Coordinator

The Waste Reduction Coordinator coordinates educational events and leads a volunteer team that fosters student engagement in challenging consumer norms, reducing consumption, reusing/repurposing material goods, and recycling.

The Marketing & Media Coordinator manages SSI’s marketing efforts, promoting tools and resources for students to make sustainable lifestyle choices and engaging the OSU student body in building a sustainable campus community.

Application Process

To apply for a Student Sustainability Initiative student staff position, submit the following online by 11:59pm April 2nd or a paper copy to the SEC Welcome Desk by 4:30pm on the application deadline, Friday March 31st, 2017.

  • A résumé and a cover letter explaining your vision of a holistically sustainable campus and what you hope to accomplish in your time with the SSI to make that vision a reality at OSU. Please also explain how your experience prepares you for success in this position and how this job will contribute to your experiential learning goals.
