As a member of Orange Media Network, you will be responsible for student-produced content and ensuring student staff members are held to the highest ethical, fiscal and professional standards and practices. You will recruit, lead and supervise student employees and volunteers while advancing Orange Media Network’s reputation for excellence in all media forms and as a welcoming, engaging and inclusive organization. You are responsible for setting the tone of the department as a collaborative, supportive environment, and should celebrate and take pride in the success of others with the same enthusiasm as you take pride in your own accomplishment. As a leader, you should build others up through mentoring, coaching and supporting, while also managing and directing work.

Responsibilities:

  • Think big picture, establish and develop strategies to increase trust, engagement, and ultimately grow the audience for Orange Media Network and the Barometer
  • Focus primarily on the digital and social media side of the Barometer and the OMN sports teams, and lead them to be producers, designers and creators who develop content and tell stories from the digital and social media perspective in an engaging and compelling manner
  • Utilize analytics to further increase engagement and provide direction for the news and sports teams
  • Attend weekly Barometer red mark (editors) meeting
  • Attend weekly meeting with Web and Mobile staff to plan, strategize, and review work
  • Collaborate with student leaders and Web and Mobile team to develop and implement a social media and website commenting policy and ensure it is respected and followed
  • Assist with the covering and distribution of breaking news with an ultimate focus on accuracy
  • Be the liaison between all OMN mediums and the Web Interactive Designer, coordinating projects and schedules, especially with the Barometer
  • Assist Social Media Strategist with production of the Juice newsletter, under the direction of the Web and Mobile Manager
  • Assist the Barometer team with the production of the weekly print Baro as directed by the Web and Mobile Manager, with the potential to use Adobe InDesign to support production
  • Provide weekly social media analytics report to Web and Mobile Manager at the weekly Web and Mobile team meeting for the Barometer and OMN news and sports teams
  • Use analytics and research tools including Google, Twitter and Facebook trending topics to identify current trends to produce relevant content and create engagement and promotional strategies
  • Collaborate with Barometer and OMN sports teams to create a master schedule for the social media accounts that includes posting times and content, and ensure these schedules are being met
  • Ensure the Barometer and OMN sports teams are integrating social media, print and digital efforts to ensure their content is being distributed through all channels
  • Manage and post to the official OMN accounts as directed by the Web and Mobile Manager
  • Understand that social media platforms of today aren't necessarily the ones of tomorrow, be open and excited for change, experiment and innovation in all aspects of the position
  • Collaborate with Web and Mobile team to explore new digital and social media initiatives including but not limited to short-and-long-form video, podcasts, augmented reality, virtual reality, 360 video and more
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to staff and encourage learning, student participation, accountability and media excellence
  • Meet all deadlines
  • Lead at least one all-staff training per term.
  • Immediately respond to questions and comments from community with the utmost professionalism
  • Collaborate with outside organizations around campus and represent Orange Media Network proudly and professionally while looking for opportunities to build audience and participation in the network
  • Participate in the NMC 409 open house the first Wednesday of every term

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Participate in all assigned START, START Transfer, and other orientation events as directed.
  • Work to create a legacy of assessment and constant improvement in the pursuit of quality and excellence
  • Participate in weekly training with adviser and OMN staff to train, review the week’s strengths and areas for improvement, and most importantly, brainstorm
  • Notify Adviser and the Director of Orange Media Network immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur
  • Alert professional staff on issues with equipment.
  • Hold  regular office hours at Orange Media Network, at least half of these hours should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term
  • Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own
  • Check and respond to emails and phone calls immediately, professionally representing Orange Media Network
  • Complete all OMN surveys, including but not limited to the Weekly Assessment and OMN Student Employment
  • Be good stewards of OMN resources by ensuring that OMN equipment is only used for OMN work
  • Other duties as assigned by the adviser, director

Pay Rate: 10 hours per week at $440/month
