OMN 2017 Fall Term Training Schedule

OMN offers several trainings to help you navigate journalism and the media industry. The following link has the OMN equipment checkout policy and pictures of equipment available for students working and creating content for OMN. OMN Equipment Checkout Policy and Available Equipment

Intro to journalism

This workshop covers the basics of journalism and journalistic writing. Paid OMN Contributors must attend one of these trainings before being assigned any stories for The Baro, Beavers Digest, DAMChic or the Newsblast.

OMN photographers and contributors must attend one session to fulfill OMN employment requirements. Any OSU student can attend these sessions.

Monday, 9/25 - 6pm—following the Baro All Staff (OMN Newsteam) meeting. There will be pizza at this session.

Field Equipment 

Must sign up for training. To register for a session, please follow the link to complete this  Sign up for Training form.
A one hour long session is required for field equipment certification. All OMN student employees and student volunteers working for OMN must take this training before any field equipment can be checked out.

Adobe Premiere Video Editing - We'll cover the basics of video editing, including importing clips, trimming, adjusting audio, and exporting

NX5 Video Cameras - Covers more advances techniques in using the Sony NX5 video camera, including examples of shot composition, recording natural sound, and more

TV News Packages - Come see examples of high-quality TV news packages and learn how to make your own for a news broadcast

Radio Interviewing - Learn the best techniques for hosting a guest on the air, developing questions, and making your interview sound like a good conversation

EditShare - OMN uses a special video management system to make it easy to save videos and access them during broadcasts. This workshop will show you the basics of how to access it.

Thursday, Nov. 9, 5 p.m.


MOJO (Mobile Journalism) - Learn how to use your smartphone to capture good video and photos when on an assignment.

KBVR FM Trainings for dj's, podcasters, and announcers

Play-By-Play Announcer Orientation - Learn how to get involved as a play-by-play announcer for KBVR-FM broadcasts
