OMN offers several trainings to help you navigate journalism and the media industry. The following link has the OMN equipment checkout policy and pictures of equipment available for students working and creating content for OMN. OMN Equipment Checkout Policy and Available Equipment

 

Intro to Journalism


This workshop covers the basics of journalism and journalistic writing. Paid OMN Contributors must attend one of these trainings before being assigned any stories for The Baro, Beavers Digest, DAMChic or the Newsblast.

OMN photographers and contributors must attend one session to fulfill OMN employment requirements. Any OSU student can attend these sessions.

Field Equipment certification

Must sign up for training. To register for a session, please follow the link to complete this  Sign up for Training form.
This session is required for field equipment certification. All OMN student employees and student volunteers working for OMN must take this training before any field equipment can be checked out.

Studio Training

Room: SEC 421, Studio A

 

TV Boot Camp and Studio Orientation - Required for all new and returning TV volunteers. This training will cover several pieces of TV equipment and orient you to KBVR-TV's studios and shows.

Date: Sat. Jan. 20, 9a-4p (Lunch provided to those who RSVP)

 

Switcher - (Limit first 5 to sign up) - The Ross Acuity Switcher controls all video components of a broadcast. This equipment is used by the show's technical director to select which cameras or video sources appear on screen.

Tuesday, Jan. 23 - 5 p.m

 

Teleprompter - Learn how to input scripts and control the speed of the teleprompter, which is used by the on-air hosts.

Monday, Jan. 29 - 5 p.m

 

Xpression Graphics - (Limit first 5 to sign up) The Ross Xpression graphics system lets you build custom graphics to use during live TV broadcasts.

Monday, Feb. 5 - 5 p.m

 

Jib Camera - The jib camera on a crane allows you to get unique shots during a live broadcast. This training covers the operation and safe use of the equipment.

Tuesday, Feb. 13 - 5 p.m

 

Advanced Studio Lights - Learn more advanced features of the studio light board, including submasters and cues.

Monday, Feb. 19 - 5 p.m

 

Studio Cameras - Learn how to operate our Grass Valley studio cameras so you can become a camera operator on a KBVR-TV broadcast.

Tuesday, Feb. 27 - 5 p.m

 

Microphones and Audio Board - This workshops familiarizes you with the microphones available in the TV studio, how to operate them, and how to manipulate audio on our Dimension audio board.

Beginning Adobe Premiere Video Editing - Learn the basics of using Adobe Premiere to import, edit, and export video. This training is good for beginners or anyone wanting to touch up on the basics.

Monday, Jan. 22 - 5 p.m

 

Shooting Interviews - Learn how to use the Sony NX5 cameras to shoot interviews. This workshop covers shot composition, framing, audio recording, and camera operation.

Monday, Jan. 29 - 6 p.m

 

Adobe Premiere Open Lab - Stop in and ask questions about Adobe Premiere, and receive hands-on help from staff and experienced students.

Tuesday, Jan. 30 - 5 p.m

 

Mobile Journalism and Smartphone videography - Learn how to use your smartphone to record video and audio on assignment, and learn how to use the special equipment available to assist with mobile journalism, including our motorized smartphone gimbal.

Tuesday, Feb. 6 - 5 p.m

 

GoPro Cameras - This workshop will teach you how to operate GoPro cameras and various accessories.

Monday, Feb. 12 - 5 p.m

 

VIdeography Open Lab - Bring your camera or video and ask questions in ths open lab. If you want to learn more about how to operate the Sony NX5 camera or how to improve your shooting, come ready with questions.

Tuesday, Feb. 20 - 5 p.m

 

Adobe Premiere Open Lab - Stop in and ask questions about Adobe Premiere, and receive hands-on help from staff and experienced students.

Monday, Feb. 26 - 5 p.m

 

KBVR FM Trainings for dj's, podcasters, and announcers

All-DJ Meeting - All returning KBVR-FM DJs must attend the all DJ meeting

Tuesday, Jan. 9 - 5 p.m.

New DJ Orientation - If you are new to KBVR-FM and want to become a DJ or Podcaster, you are required to attend this training

Play-By-Play Announcer Orientation - Learn the basics of sports announcing and how to get involved as a play-by-play announcer for KBVR-FM broadcasts

Podcasting Basics - This is the second of three required trainings to become a KBVR-FM podcaster.
