Growing Food Security is a student led effort to create a space for food system transformation through education, engagement and advocacy for a sustainable and equitable OSU community food system. We are student-fee funded and housed within the Student Sustainability Initiative.
We strive to increase OSU student’s access to locally, sustainably and organically grown foods as well as provide ample opportunities for the OSU community to become engaged with all parts of the food production and distribution system. See more information about our year-round events below our values statement.
We believe that those who are most negatively impacted by unjust food systems should be the primary decision-makers in the formation of a socially just and sustainable food system.
We believe that creating a culture of self-empowerment of individuals to engage with and amend their food system is a crucial element in equitable involvement.
We believe that every person has the right to access food with dignity and afford quality foods that fulfill their cultural and ethical values.
We believe that food has a social power, in that it can inspire, motivate, and empower members of our community to collaborate to meet common goals.
We believe that access to knowledge about our food system is a right and not a privilege.
We believe that food is a powerful way to enact change because of its inherent influence in the environmental, social, and economic spheres of sustainability and justice.
