OMN offers several trainings to help you navigate journalism and the media industry. The following link has the OMN equipment checkout policy and pictures of equipment available for students working and creating content for OMN. OMN Equipment Checkout Policy and Available Equipment


Intro to Journalism

This workshop covers the basics of journalism and journalistic writing. Paid OMN Contributors must attend one of these trainings before being assigned any stories for The Baro, Beavers Digest, DAMChic or the Newsblast.

OMN photographers and contributors must attend one session to fulfill OMN employment requirements. Any OSU student can attend these sessions.

Field Equipment certification

Must sign up for training. To register for a session, please follow the link to complete this  Sign up for Training form.
This session is required for field equipment certification. All OMN student employees and student volunteers working for OMN must take this training before any field equipment can be checked out.

All-TV Meeting

Monday, June 18 - 5 p.m.

If you've ever wanted to get involved in TV or video production, this is where you start. This is a mandatory meeting for all KBVR-TV crew members or contributors. We will go over important rules and policies, brainstorm awesome ideas, and show you how to get started in TV.


Studio Cameras

Wednesday June 20 - 3 p.m.

In this workshop, you will learn how to work under the pressure of a live broadcast to deliver high quality images using our studio cameras.


Studio Audio

Thursday June 21, -  3 p.m.

Audio is critical to a live broadcast. This workshop teaches you about microphones and our audio board, and how to determine whether you have high quality audio before going live.



Thursday, June 21 -  4 p.m.

Team dynamics come into play during every live broadcast. It's the job of the person operating the switcher to take directions from the Director and execute them for a live broadcast. The workshop will cover the Ross Acuity switcher and how to use it during a live broadcast, as well as how to take directions during a high-pressure situation.


Studio Lights

Friday, June 22 - 9 a.m.

This workshop shows how to set up and use studio lights, giving you a critical eye about the quality of the lighting during a shoot.


Test Show

Friday, June 22 - 1-4:30 p.m.

Time to put it all together in a live show. This will put your skills to the test as we produce a live show as a team.



Wednesday, June 27 - 5 p.m.

This workshop covers how to cue videos for playback during live broadcasts.


Xpression Graphics

Monday, July 9 -  4 p.m.

The Xpression system allows you to create on-screen graphics during live TV broadcasts


Jib Camera

Monday, July 16 - 4 p.m.

The jib camera is a versatile piece of equipment that allows you to do shows from different angles and use different moves. Learn how to enhance your visual storytelling with this specialized equipment.


Show Directing

Monday, July 23 - 4 p.m.

The director is in charge of the entire team, and must communicate instructions clearly and efficiently under tight deadlines and pressure. This workshops will teach you about how to maintain a calm demeanor amid the hustle and bustle of a live broadcast and how to get the most out of your team.


Show Critique

Monday, July 30 - 4 p.m. 

Come critique a professional show and find ways to include elements of it in your own storytelling.


Videography & video editing Trainings

Video Editing Basics

Monday, July 2 -  4 p.m.

This workshop covers the basics of video editing on Adobe Premiere. For anyone who wants to be a visual storyteller, this is essential.


KBVR FM Trainings for dj's, podcasters, and announcers

All-DJ Meeting - All returning KBVR-FM DJs must attend the all DJ meeting

Tuesday, June 19 - 5 p.m.

New DJ Orientation - If you are new to KBVR-FM and want to become a DJ or Podcaster, you are required to attend this training
