Intro to media


This workshop is your first step toward's getting involved in media. All members of OMN are required to take this workshop before taking on any assignments for any OMN medium or publication.

In this course, you will learn how to make work that matters to your audience, how to keep people engaged, and the power of free speech. Whether you are writing, shooting video, or hosting a radio show, the skills you learn in this course will take you to the next level.

TV Boot Camp

Saturday, Jan. 12, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

This workshop will allow you to learn multiple pieces of TV studio equipment, including cameras, lights, microphones, audio board, and switcher. Then you will put it all together for a mock show, where you are in charge of the content. This is the perfect way to be trained on several pieces of equipment right at the start of the term, so you can hit the ground running. If you are interested in joining KBVR-TV, this is the day for you.

Jib Camera

Monday, Jan. 14, 5 p.m.

The jib camera sits on a crane, and allows you to creare dynamic, swooping shots in your production. Come learn how to use one of the most unique pieces of studio equipment at OMN.

Studio Cameras

Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2 p.m.

The Grass Valley Studio Cameras let you shoot your broadcast in HD. This workshop will teach you how to create engaging, dynamic shots that tell the story for your audience.

Studio Lights

Thursday, Jan. 17, 3 p.m.

Don't keep your hosts in the dark! Every show needs strong lighting, and this workshop will teach you how to set up lights from the ceiling grid and using floor stands, as well as control it from our Element Light Board.

Directing

Monday, Jan. 22, 5 p.m.

Learn to take command of the control room and lead a live TV broadcast. This workshop will teach you how to effectively lead your broadcast team, stay organized, and accomplish your goal of a strong TV show.

Floor Directing

Monday, Jan. 28, 5 p.m.

The floor director is the eyes and ears in the studio. They must organize the crew, keep guests informed, give cues, and keep things running smoothly. This workshop will teach you about command presence in a broadcast studio.

Geevs Video Playback

Monday, Feb. 4, 5 p.m.

The Geevs system allows users to cue up and play videos during a live broadcast.

Teleprompter

Monday, Feb. 11, 5 p.m.

Don't let your anchor become the next Ron Burgandy! This workshop teaches you how to control the teleprompter system so anchors can read their scripts on the air.

Studio Cameras

Monday, Feb. 18, 5 p.m.

Xpression Graphics

Monday, Feb. 25, 5 p.m.

The Ross Xpression graphics system allows users to create on-screen graphics.

KBVR FM Trainings for dj's, podcasters, and announcers

 

All-DJ Meeting

Tuesday, Jan. 8, 5 p.m.

This is the required meeting for all returning student DJs at KBVR-FM. Radio staff will discuss important information, including expectations for DJs, upcoming events, and tips for improving your show. DJs will also select their timeslots for the term.

 

New DJ Orientation

Tuesday, Jan. 15, 5 p.m.

To become a KBVR-FM DJ, you must attend this orientation. Sign up by emailing fm.manager@oregonstate.edu. This orientation covers federal rules about the radio station, gives an overview of the DJ booth, and sets the training schedule for the term. Attendance is mandatory for the duration of the orientation.

 

Podcasting Basics

Friday, Jan. 11, 4 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to start your own podcast? We'll show you how! This workshop covers the easy steps you can take both at home and at OMN to star a new podcast, including recording tips and advice on building an audience.

 

Sports Play-by-Play

Thursday, Jan. 17, 5 p.m.

Have you dreamed of being on the mic to call a touchdown for the Beavers? Do you get fired up about the idea calling a big 3-pointer in Gill? This workshop not only teaches you how to be a good play-by-play announcer, we will connect you with KBVR-FM to become an announcer for their live sports broadcasts! Sports fans, this is your chance!
